Nutritional Health Consultations

providing a solution to chronic ill health

If you are looking to optimise your health, book a consultation with registered Nutritional Therapist, Wendy Urwin.
Wendy utilises a functional medicine model to identify and address the underlying causes of chronic ill health. This approach makes nutritional therapy suitable for all manner of health complaints, especially chronic unresponsive conditions or situations where GP tests show an absence of treatable disease (“there’s nothing wrong with you”) but you know something is not right. In these cases, a breakdown in functionality or biochemical, microbiological or hormonal imbalance could be underlying the ill health you are experiencing.

Nutritional therapy concerns much more than diet: it investigates how your body is working and why it is no longer functioning correctly, taking into account your genetic, biochemical, biological and psychological individuality.

It should not be considered an alternative form of medicine but used to complement conventional healthcare – it is fully integrative. Clients with serious health conditions or symptoms of concern (red flags) may be referred to their GP for medical checks.

If you are unsure whether a consultation with a private nutritionist is right for you, request a free 15-minute introductory session by telephone. Please note that without a full assessment of your case it may not be possible to offer specific health advice during the introductory session.

What to expect from your Nutritional Health Consultation

An initial consultation lasts approx. 90 minutes. You will be asked to complete a detailed health questionnaire prior to your appointment. Please take the time to complete it as fully as possible as the information obtained is very important in understanding your case, include as much detail as possible even if the questions seem irrelevant to your condition.

During your first consultation, your practitioner will try to gain as much information as possible to build a detailed timeline of your life, health and events which may have triggered your illness. Recommendations made at this stage may include a general tidy-up of your diet and lifestyle – don’t be dismayed, sometimes simple changes can make profound improvements to health! It is necessary to do this groundwork before progressing to more targeted interventions.

After the initial consultation, Wendy Urwin will analyse and research your case to achieve a deeper understanding of the processes which may be underlying your problems – this will be discussed at your next consultation. Functional testing may be recommended to inform and guide clinical actions.

A minimum of two consultations are recommended but further appointments may be required to address long term or more complex health problems. Various packages are available to suit every need but please contact us if you have a specific request.

Private consultations are available in person at Nourish, 105 Church Street Inverness or Cannich, Inverness-shire, and by telephone or Skype for those living further afield. Home visits may be available for local clients with limited mobility.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
